Being Green doesn't just have to be about the print. It all starts with the designer. He/she should be asking whether the item needs o be printed at all? How can you increase the shelf-life of the product? can it be used for more than one purpose etc etc.

I work for a marketing company over in Australia and we used to churn out so many flyers and brochures using a scatter gun effect, but we now use Green Publishing http://www.greenpublishing.com.au and they ask us these questions every time we have a new project and are always looking for ways to reduce the print... even if it means them getting less work!

As for ink, we only use printers that are using Vegetable-based soy inks. the colours are just as bright and the drying time is reduced.

As I said, over here we have Green Publishing to guide us through the complicated maze of trying to be green... I hope you have a company similar over there!

Dry cleaners have been using perc since the middle of the last century. Perc is by far the most commonly used solvent in the industry. There are over 30,000 employees who spend every day working inside dry cleaning plants. These people get much more than a small dose of perc daily. These people aren't suffering the symptoms you list here. Any idea why not?

I've been thinking about these videos as well... Starting with staff rather than patrons might help get everyone on board. Maybe incentives to take the stairs instead of the elevator, to bring reusable utencils and plates for lunch instead of take-out containers, awards for the least amount of trash from each department. Hmmm...

Too bad those experiencing social injustice will not be able to attend. America spends zillions on Environmental Injustice, Cap and Trade and the signing of the UN Treaty may just bankrupt enough carbon credits so that there is no manufacturing left in the U.S. We propose President Obama does not allow America to be held ransom.
